Delays to adoption of EU legislative proposal must end

24-1-2023

Insurance Europe – together with a coalition of automotive market participants – has written to the European Commission to call for an end to delays to the adoption of an EU legislative proposal on access to in-vehicle data.

Such a proposal is vital to ensure drivers are in control of their data. It is also required to create a level playing field between automotive market participants and vehicle manufacturers who currently control access to that in-vehicle data. Crucially, access to this data would enable automotive market participants to begin developing innovative products and services for the benefit of consumers.

The Commission has already missed previous self-imposed deadlines to propose legislation on access to in-vehicle data, and now the proposal has been delayed yet again. The signatories, therefore, strongly urged the Commission to get the process back on track, as this legislation is vital to unblock the automotive and mobility services sector market.
