Cover Notes: "Reporting for duty": a conversation with Patrick de Cambourg, chair of the Sustainability Reporting Board of EFRAG

As he takes the helm of EFRAG’s Sustainability Reporting Board, Patrick de Cambourg spoke to Insurance Europe's deputy director general, Olav Jones, about the challenges of creating sustainability reporting standards, what lies ahead on the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and how he sees the Directive fitting with future international reporting standards.

Patrick de Cambourg is the newly appointed chair of the Sustainability Reporting Board of EFRAG, the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group.

Between 2015 and November 2022 he was President of the Autorité des normes comptables (ANC), the French accounting standard-setting authority. As such, he was also member of the boards of France’s Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution (ACPR), Conseil de normalisation des comptes publics (CNOCP) and a member of the Haut Conseil de Stabilité Financière.

De Cambourg was a member of the EFRAG Financial Reporting Board and has chaired the EFRAG Project Task Force on preparatory work for the elaboration of possible EU non-financial reporting standards from September 2020 until April 2022.

He is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris, holds degrees in public and business law and has a Bachelor of Arts. As a chartered accountant and auditor, he spent his entire career (1983-2014) at the Mazars Group, becoming senior partner. Since late 2014, he has been honorary president of the group.

Olav Jones has been deputy director general and director, economics and finance at Insurance Europe since 2011.

He is a member of the Occupational Pensions Stakeholder Group of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA).

He studied both engineering and finance and started his career with financial services consultancy Oliver Wyman. He then spent 15 years working for Prudential, Fortis and Ageas in roles related to risk, capital management and strategy, most recently as group chief risk officer.
