Service providers and road users push back against vehicle manufacturers’ call for delay to EU rules on access to in-vehicle data

21-2-2023

Associations representing a wide range of independent service providers and road users – including Insurance Europe – have refuted the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association’s (ACEA) call for further delays to the European Commission’s legislative proposal on access to in-vehicle data, functions and resources.

ACEA recently suggested that access to vehicle-generated data is already freely available, that the associations should wait to assess the impact of the Data Act and that, in any event, sector-specific legislation could not achieve more than is already in the Data Act.

However, this is not the case, and the associations have responded to each of ACEA’s points in this statement, thus confirming the need for the Commission to bring forward its legislative proposal without further delay.
