Cover Notes: "Take two": a conversation with Markus Ferber MEP, rapporteur for the review of the Solvency II Directive

As the Solvency II review moves into a crucial phase, Markus Ferber, European Parliament rapporteur for Solvency II and the Insurance Recovery and Resolution Directive, and Insurance Europe director general Michaela Koller reflect on what policymakers must do to ensure the review facilitates more long-term investment and the EU’s move to sustainability, while maintaining high levels of policyholder protection.

Markus Ferber has been an MEP (DE, EPP) since 1994. During his time in office, he has served in multiple high-profile roles and takes a keen interest in financial services legislation. Currently, he serves as the coordinator of the European People’s Party in the European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee.

Interviewer

Michaela Koller has been director general of Insurance Europe since 2007. She is currently secretary general of the Global Federation of Insurance Associations and chairs the Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA).

Prior to joining Insurance Europe, Koller was a member of the management committee of the European Savings Banks Group and the World Savings Banks Institute.

She holds a law degree from Augsburg University.
